Port of Quanzhou sees January-June throughput increase 21pc

The port of Quanzhou has reported that container throughput during the first half of 2007 rose 20.9 per cent over the same period last year to 460,000 TEU.
During this period, general cargo throughput increased by 15.56 per cent to 28.5 million tons, reports Logistics Week.
From January to the end of June, authorities in Quanzhou invested a total of CNY500 million (US$66.11 million) on port facility upgrades, up 51 per cent compared to the first half of 2006.
Quanzhou has 14 port projects under construction, including number four berth in the Shihu port area, a 300,000-ton capacity berth for petrochemicals and several port approach channels. The Meizhouwan port channel is expected to be finished by August and new channels will be built at the Shijing, Anhai and Jujiang port areas.
The new box terminal, called Quanzhou Pacific Container Terminal, was jointly established by Cosco Pacific and Quanzhou Port Group last year. The facility has so far attracted more than 10 carriers to operate a total of 23 shipping services from the terminal.
