Throughput of the port of Arkhangelsk up 2.6% in Jan-May

In January-May 2007, throughput of the port of Arkhangelsk made 1891.1 thou tonnes (+2.6%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Arkhangelsk Seaport Administration. In the reported period, the port¡¯s stevedoring companies accepted 179.936 thou tonnes of cargo (+48.3%, year-on-year) including 114.038 thou tonnes of import cargo (+86.2%), 120.692 thou tonnes of coastal trade cargo (-1.2%). Import of containers totaled 20.922 thou tonnes (-13.6%), machines and equipment ¨C 0.838 thou tonnes (+12%), other general cargo - 92.278 thou tonnes (2.5-fold increase). Incoming coastal trade cargo included 61.895 thou tonnes of general cargo (+20.4), 2.639 thou tonnes of containerized cargo (-60%), 1.350 thou tonnes of construction minerals (no transshipment of such cargo in January-May 2006). In the 5-month period the port dispatched 1711.167 thou tonnes of cargo (- 0.6%) including 504.240 thou tonnes of export cargo (+0.8%), 1206.92 thou tonnes of coastal trade cargo (-1.2%). Export comprised 26.141 thou tonnes of containerized cargo (+40.7%), 225.560 thou tonnes of timber (-4.2%), 40.933 thou tonnes of metal scrap (-48.3%), 30.345 thou tonnes of cellulose (-44.5%), 6.761 thou tonnes of cardboard and paper (-45.8%), 0.216 thou tonnes of other general cargo (4.2 times less as compared with January-May 2006). Dispatched coastal trade cargo includes 1050.870 thou tonnes of oil and oil products (-6%), 5.461 thou tonnes of machines and equipment (+74.5%), 38.113 thou tonnes of metal (+5.6%), 51.997 thou tonnes of other general cargo (3.6-fold growth against January-May 06), 51.031 thou tonnes of containerized cargo (+14.2%, year-on-year).

The port of Arkhangelsk is the largest seaport in the Northern region of Russia. Seaport of Arkhangelsk accepts vessels with a draft of up to 9.2 meters, length of up to 175 meters, breadth of up to 30 meters. The port comprises 151 berths with a total length of 17548 meters, including 31 berths of timber industry companies, 22 berths of sea trade port, 6 berths of the river port, 3 berths of Rosneft- Arkhangelsknefteproduct OJSC engaged in export of oil and oil products, 2 berths of the fishing port and 87 minor berths of other companies. Arkhangelsk port is crossed by cargo transit lines from Europe to the states of the Far, Middle and Near East.
