POSTED: 8:47 a.m. EDT, August 15,2007
Container throughput of ports in Fujian province totalled 3.23 million TEU in the first half of this year, an increase of 19.3 per cent compared to the corresponding period a year ago.

During this period, two ports in the province, Xiamen and Fuzhou, ranked seventh and 13th in all of China, said a Xinhua report.

From January to June, Fujian's domestic container volume increased by 45.2 per cent to 866,000 TEU. Foreign trade containers rose 12.1 per cent to 2.37 million TEU, of which 2.12 million TEU were carried on international shipping lines.

Containers bound for Europe, US, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea lines accounted for 73.2 per cent of the international volume in Fujian. European lines were the fastest growing of these lines and carried 593,600 TEU, nearly 10,000 TEU more than on US-bound routes.
