Shenzhen port container throughput up 10pc in January

STATISTICS show Shenzhen port container throughput rose 10 per cent year on year in January to 1.646 million TEU, Logistics Week reported.

The volume included 726,000 TEU handled by Yantian International Container, 214,000 TEU handled by Shekou Container Terminal and 483,000 TEU handled by Chiwan Container Terminal, increasing 6.4 per cent, 6.7 per cent and 16.8 per cent respectively.

More than 65 per cent were full containers while 34 per cent were empty. Full container volume stood at 1.071 million TEU and empties at 575,000, increasing 10.3 per cent and 9.4 per cent respectively.



Total cargo throughput of Shenzhen increased by 19.7 per cent year on year to 16.983 million tons in January, which included 12.2 million tons of foreign trade cargo that was up 24.3 per cent.
