Guangzhou-Zhuhai 187-kilometre railway starts construction
POSTED: 9:09 a.m. EDT, October 15,2007
THE railway connecting south China logistics hub of Guangzhou to Zhuhai's port of Gaolan, west of Guangzhou, has begun construction, Xinhua reported.

The railway will cover 187 kilometres and cost CNY13.1 billion (US$1.7 billion). After completion in four years, the railway will be able to carry 60 million tons of cargo a year.

The report said the railway enables sea-rail intermodal links between the two cities and will help relieve Guangzhou's westbound transport capacity shortage.
