Shenzhen up 13.69pc in first half, sees 20m TEU by 2008
POSTED: 9:01 a.m. EDT, July 24,2007
Shenzhen handled 9.4 million TEU in the first half of this year, an increase of 13.69 per cent year on year, Logistics Week reported.

Since Shenzhen container volume usually grows faster in the second rather than the first half, the port expects to hit 20 million TEU at its three major container terminals by January, according the mainland logistics journal.

Yantian International Container Terminal handled 4.1 million TEU, an increase of 11.8 per cent; Chiwan Container Terminals handled 2.791 million TEU, an increase of 16.8 per cent and Shekou Container Terminal handled 2.1 million TEU, an increase of 11.1 per cent.

In June, the three container terminals in Shenzhen handled 1.6 million TEU, a new monthly high in 2007 accounting for an increase of 13.1 per cent.

Shenzhen port also saw its cargo throughput rising 15.54 per cent to 92.8 million tons from January to June this year and that included 70.4 million tons of foreign trade cargo, which grew 22.9 per cent, the report said.

The port added 14 new container services in the first half of this year, making its total container service number reaching 182.
