Tianjin mayor calls for Tianjin-Hebei port co-operation
POSTED: 9:11 a.m. EDT, June 30,2007
Tianjin Mayor Dai Xianglong has called on relevant officials in Tianjin and Hebei province to strengthen inter-port co-operation, Xinhua reported.

Mayor Dai was addressing a symposium on economic and social development co-operation between Tianjin and Hebei, when he said Tianjin Port should strengthen co-operation with Hebei's ports of Qinhuangdao, Tangshan and Huanghua.

Tianjin and Hebei, he said, should enhance co-operation in customs to improve regional clearance. Based on agreements, Tianjin port should set up inland customs checkpoints in Hebei, he said.

The mayor also said ports in Tianjin and Hebei should make good use of their advantages and launch intermodal services to bring down transportation costs with his city playing the role of international trade and shipping hub, stretching out into a network to Hebei ports.

Mayor Dai also favoured plans to shift the ore handling from Tianjin to Hebei's Caohuidian port.
