US-flagged ships end Maersk charter to fly Marshall Islands colours

2008-4-6

Two US-flagged ships ended a month's charter with Maersk by raising the colours of the Marshall Islands and joining the service of the Waterman Steamship Company, a unit New Orleans' International Shipholding Corporation.

The two Dutch-built vessels, the 24-year-old 1,779-TEU Buenos Aires and Santa Cruz, later renamed the Nedlloyd Van Noort and Nedlloyd Van Diemen and still later renamed the P&O Nedlloyd Buenos Aires and P&O Nedlloyd Vera Cruz, and have since been renamed the Intra Bhum and Hari Bhum, reports AXS-Alphaliner News.

The ships are expected to leave from their West Africa service and join a loop in Middle East where they used to operate, reported the French news and analysis agency.
