Danish shipping giant Maersk proposes to construct an inland container depot (ICD) near Chittagong port in a bid to ease congestion in Bangladesh's biggest port, according to Shipping Gazette quoting Thomson Financial. To be built over a 25-acre area, the proposed ICD, likely to be commissioned next year, is estimated to cost $20 million. The Chittagong port handles nearly 90 per cent of the country's foreign trade estimate d at $29 billion, with Maersk accounting for around 30 per cent of it. Meanwhile, Maersk Logistics has announced the global launch of a new carbon footprint reduction service. The new offering - the Supply Chain Carbon Check - is a consulting service aimed at supporting companies in reducing carbon emissions from their supply chains. The service, it is claimed, is the first of its kind developed by a logistics service provider to lower carbon emissions in global supply chains.
