Mitsui O.S.K. Lines is consolidating two services-one that runs between China and Singapore and the other between Singapore and Africa-to form a single string that it said will result in improved service between China and Africa.
MOL said it is consolidating the Singapore-Durban shuttle service (ZAX) and the Shanghai-Singapore service (CS1) into a single string, effective January 2008.
"With this consolidation, the new service will call at major ports in China (Hong Kong, Shanghai, Xiamen, and Yantian), which allows for direct service between China and South Africa," the company said. The company also said it would add calls to Maputo in Mozambique and to Durban in South Africa.
Seven containerships, ranging in size from 1,600 to 1,700 TEUs, will be used in the service. The port rotation for the fixed day weekly service will be Shanghai, Xiamen, Yantian, Hong Kong, Dachan Bay, Singapore, Durban, Maputo, Singapore, and Shanghai. The first vessel in the service will call Shanghai on Jan. 17.
