International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) has appointed Buddha Majumdar as the general manager and chief executive officer of its Syrian facility, Tartous International Container Terminal (TICT).

Mr. Majumdar is said to bring to ICTSI over 30 years of experience in port management from various ports projects in the UK and India. Before to his ICTSI appointment, he was managing director of Mersey Docks and Harbour Company (MDHC) from 2006, which manages the Liverpool docks.

Mr. Majumdar began his career in the UK in 1976 with MDHC, assigned to various departments including marine, cargo operations, corporate planning and central executive. Among his key accomplishments was being a part of the team that established the largest and most successful free port in the UK. He became general manager of Medway Ports in 1994 when it was acquired by MDHC, while also being involved in overseas consultancy for the Port of Mundra in Gujarat India.

He later moved to Associated British Ports (ABP) in 1998 as regional manager for North-West Ports, and was appointed to the group's board when he was promoted the following year to port director of Short Sea Ports.

He was named ABP port director, South Wales Ports in 2002 before joining the Manchester Airports Group in 2004 as general manager of aviation Services. Mr. Majumdar later rejoined MDHC in 2006 as a managing director following the group's acquisition by Peel Ports, a company statement said.
