NYK receives bulk carrier
POSTED: 9:25 a.m. EDT, June 8,2007
Japan's NYK has taken delivery of a 205,000-deadweight-ton bulk carrier built by Imabari Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.
The MG Courage will soon be put into service under two contracts. The first is a 10-year contract with China's Maanshan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. for the transport of iron ore to China from Brazil for the first five years of the contract and then from Western Australia for the second five years.
The second contract is with Korea's SK Shipping Europe Ltd., which will run concurrently with the first five years of the contract with Maanshan. SK Shipping will use the vessel after iron ore is unloaded in China, when the ship is then sailed to Australia to transport coal and iron ore to Europe before returning to Brazil.
