NYK Logistics (UK) Ltd has been appointed by Grupo Antolin to provide a sub-assembly and sequencing operation to support the supply of headliners into the Honda plant at Swindon.
Grupo Antolin is a leader in the design and manufacture of components for automobile interiors, and a world leader in the production of modular headliner systems, complete with accessories, for rapid assembly on the production line.
The NYK operation enables Grupo Antolin to supply complete assemblies in 13 different variants to match individual cars on the Civic and CR-V production lines at Swindon.
Allied to the cross-dock established by NYK following its appointment by Honda of the UK Manufacturing to convert its UK supplier base to ex-works, the Grupo Antolin operation involves two specially equipped production lines and occupies a dedicated 20,000 sq ft area within the facility.
Parts arrive in Swindon from Grupo Antolin's manufacturing facilities in France on a daily basis. A 27 strong NYK team is then responsible for the production of 680 assemblies per day, using bespoke machinery to attach accessories including clips, rain sensors and anti squeak felt to the substrate.
NYK is also responsible for final quality checks, bagging and sequencing in line with Honda's production schedule. NYK then operates a five times a day shuttle service to transport the assemblies to lineside.
In 2007, NYK will be responsible for the production of 220,000 assemblies in line with Honda's own production targets for the CR-V, five door Civic and the new three door Civic Type S.
