GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) has recently ordered six 777 freighters worth US$1.42 billion at list prices from Boeing.
This raises the total number of 777s GECAS has ordered directly from Boeing to 39, including fourteen 777 freighters. So far GECAS has taken delivery of fifteen 777s. The agreement also grants GECAS the right to substitute other 777 passenger models, if necessary, in the future, a report by UK Transport Intelligence said.
"We are very pleased to have finalised this order for six additional 777 aircraft," said Henry Hubschman, president and CEO of GECAS. "The 777 has proven itself to be a strong performer in the passenger market, and we believe this will also apply in the cargo segment."
The first 777 freighter is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2008. To date, seventy-eight 777 freighters worth $18.5 billion have been sold worldwide, the report added.
