Slated to begin in July, these five new flights will fly fly from the UPS European air hub in Cologne, Germany on to Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore and Mumbai. Moving west from Cologne is connection to the carrier's international air hub in Louisville, Ky.? Using MD-11 aircraft, the new service will not only provide additional lift, it will offer improved pick-up times for shippers.
^The new flights are part of our aggressive efforts to extend service options for customers in Singapore and is a testament of UPS's commitment to growth in Singapore. They also support the growing trend of trade between South Asia and the Middle East and Europe by providing businesses with greater access to the regions, ̄ says Mary Yeo, UPS Singapore managing director. ^This service enhancement, in addition to the new UPS distribution and logistics center at the Airport Park of Singapore (ALPS), further supports the Singapore government's vision to make the country a regional logistics hub. ̄
The UPS ALPS facility is one of the carriers major regional operations centers, offering ocean freight as well as logistics and specialty services in addition to air freight. The company notes its additional services at ALPS include critical parts distribution, final product kitting, returns, repair and warranty management.
Alan Gershenhorn, UPS International president, points out that, ^Singapore continues to be an important market for UPS in Asia and we are constantly looking at ways to expand our service for customers whether they require express, air freight, ocean freight or distribution and logistics options. ̄
