Shanghai International Port Group up 18pc to record 2.3 million TEU

SHANGHAI International Port Group's (SIPG) container throughput rose 17.8 per cent year on year in August to an all-time monthly high of 2.3 million TEU, Logistics Week reported.

SIPG's subsidiary, Shengdong International Container Terminal Co., Ltd, also broke a record by lifting 580,000 TEU, a surge of 93 per cent compared to the same month in 2006.



Group cargo throughput increased 9.9 per cent to 30.1 million tons, and foreign trade volume rose 16 per cent to 20.3 million tons.



From January to August, SIPG's cumulative container volume rose 22 per cent year on year to 17.1 million TEU. Shengdong International Container Terminal volume shot up 109 per cent to 3.86 million TEU.



During the same period, throughput went up 18.5 per cent to 234 million tons. Foreign trade rose 24 per cent to 154 million tons. Imports increased 19.5 per cent to 72.2 million tons. Exports increased 27.7 per cent to 81.8 million tons.
