Shekou Container Terminal (SCT) handled 274,695.5 TEU in July, an increase of 32.8 per cent over the same month a year ago. The July throughput result has set a monthly record.
In the first seven months of the year, SCT handled 1,668,689.75 TEU, up 23.8 per cent compared to the same period in 2006.
The strong performance comes as SCT has attracted six new liner shipping services since June, namely: the Singapore service RSX operated by Regional Container Lines; the China-Manila Express (CMX2) service offered by TS Lines; the Asia Black Sea (ABX) service and the South China East Coast Express (SCE) operated by the Grand Alliance; the South China-Vietnam (SVG) service operated by China United Lines and the New India Express (NIX) jointly operated by KMTC and CNC.
In addition, vessel capacity for OOCL's KTX1 service has been upgraded from 2,762 TEU to 4,578 TEU, which will contribute higher cargo volumes for SCT in the coming peak season.
