Macun Port to be Built as Center Port of Haikou
POSTED: 8:49 a.m. EDT, July 6,2007
The Port Area of Macun will be built into the center port and comprehensive port in Haikou Port, according to Haikou city¨s urban layout. The project of port expansion includes the construction of nine 20,000-tonnage berths.
The first phase project is invested with RMB 1.01 billion, including building five 20,000-tonnage bulk cargo berths, and the second phase project will be invested with RMB 850 million, including four 20,000-tonnage general cargo berths. Over 5 million tons of cargo throughput will be added to the port area after the overall project is completed.
The throughput of Haikou Port accounts for 80% of the total amount in the province and the port only offers place for calling at and loading and unloading, which is disproportional to its status as a main port.
