Guangxi coastal rail freight volume up 38pc from January-May
POSTED: 8:57 a.m. EDT, July 21,2007
The Guangxi Coastal Railway Co., Ltd handled a total of 12.7 million tons of cargo via coastal railways in Guangxi from January to May, an increase of 38.1 per cent.

The strong performance follows the expansion of Guangxi's rail freight transport capacity in recent years, reports Xinhua. The capacity of the Nanning-Qinzhou section of the Nanning-Fangchenggang railway, for example, has soared from 9.42 million to 19.08 million tons and the capacity of the Qinzhou-Fangchenggang section has increased from 9.12 million to 17.75 million tons in the same period.

Sea-rail intermodal cargo nowadays also accounts for a larger percentage of the throughput at Guangxi's seaports.

From 2002 to 2007, cargo transported on these railways grew to 87 million tons. Subsequently, Guangxi Coastal Railway achieved core business revenue of CNY1.96 billion (US$259.1 million) in 2006.
