Hong Kong airport cargo rebounds, up 5.3pc in June

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has announced that following last month's upward trend, cargo traffic increased by 5.3 per cent in June over the same month a year ago to 305,000 tonnes.

"The continued rebound in cargo traffic is particularly pleasing, bearing in mind that air cargo is seasonally rather slow in the middle of the year," said Airport Authority Hong Kong CEO Stanley Hui.



Last month, passenger and air transport movements (ATM) throughput and grew 5.7 per cent and 5.6 per cent from June 2006, to 3.85 million and 24,180, respectively, a statement from the airport authority said.



For the first six months of the year, cargo traffic grew 1.5 per cent to 1.7 million tonnes, while passenger volumes rose 6.4 per cent to 22.7 million from the corresponding period a year ago. ATMs increased 4.4 per cent to 143,000.



For the 12 months ending 30 June, cargo traffic reached 3.6 million tonnes and passenger numbers 45.8 million, respectively, an increase of 2.8 per cent and 7.4 per cent from year-earlier figures.
