Wuhan's Tianhe Airport plans to build a logistics facility for air cargo inside the city's Dongxihu Bonded Logistics Park, reports Xinhua.
A member of the board of director at the Tianhe Airport Group, Meng Zhengguo, said the new facility will help Tianhe Airport enhance cargo distribution efficiency and lower transport costs in addition to providing job opportunities and stimulating regional economic growth.
The plan is for the facility to attract air cargo carriers and third-party logistics providers to open new branches within the bonded logistics park.
Tianhe Airport is billed as driver for regional economic growth by the Airports Council International (ACI), said Mr Meng. This forecast is supported by estimates from the UN's International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) that a million air passengers will use the airport annually to return a profit of US$130 million to the local economy, as well as create 1,000 direct jobs and 3,000 indirectly.
Handling in excess of 100,000 tons of air cargo is also expected to further create 800 jobs for the local economy.
