John Menzies buys out Universal Air Cargo
POSTED: 11:55 a.m. EDT, April 26,2007

Logistics company John Menzies has announced that its aviation support services unit, Menzies Aviation, has acquired Universal Air Cargo Pty Ltd, an international wholesale freight forwarder, according to Thomson Financial.

The amount involved was not disclosed, but the company indicated that "the business will be merged with Menzies Aviation's AMI business, a freight and express wholesaler".

Menzies Aviation managing director Craig Smyth said: "There are significant synergies with our existing AMI business which has made great strides in the last 18 months. This acquisition provides an ideal platform from which to grow the business further."

According to the report, Universal Air Cargo, which operates in the US and Australasia, was previously privately owned and its reported gross assets were GBP4.08 million (US$8.15 million) in June 30, 2006.
