Shanghai to focus on eight areas of port development

An official of Shanghai port authority said the harbour would focus on developing eight areas during the current 11th Five-year Plan, Xinhua reported.
These include the three port areas along the upper stream, middle stream and lower stream of Huangpu River, the Baoshan Luojing port area, the Waigaoqiao port area, the Hangzhou Bay port area, the Yangshan port area and the Congming port area.
According to the plan, the Huangpu River upper stream port area will become a bulk handling and integrated logistics area to serve local city industries.
The Huangpu River middle stream port area will focus on passenger traffic and related transport services.
The Huangpu River lower stream port area will become an integrated port area to serve the development of the city.
The Baoshan Luojing port area will be oriented as a hub for large bulk cargo transportation.
The Waigaoqiao port area will become a large integrated container transport terminal.
The Hangzhou Bay port area will mainly develop LNG terminals and bulk handling to serve coastal industries.
The Yangshan port area is designed as a deepwater container hub, an important part of Shanghai International Shipping Centre.
The Congming port area, which covers Changxing Island and Hesha Island, will provide transport between the islands and the mainland and the shipbuilding industry.
