Grand Alliance ends Asia-Europe loop, hopes to resume in June

2009-2-2

THE five-member Grand Alliance has suspended its EU5 service between Europe and Asia, for which it deployed eight ships in the 3,300-TEU range.

Blaming the global economic downturn, the alliance of Hapag-Lloyd, MISC, NYK and OOCL, said it hopes to resume the service in June with its old 56-day round trip rotation of Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Singapore, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Southampton, Singapore and back to Shanghai.
