The Grand Alliance has added a ninth 6,200 TEU vessel to its Japan-North Europe Service (EU1), in a bid to reduce emissions and increase service quality.
The addition completes an environmentally friendly programme, aimed at lowering emissions.
A similar move was made earlier this year on its North Europe-Far East Service.
By adding more vessels, these services can operate at an economic speed, which will reduce emissions by 20 to 30 per cent, the alliance noted.
The members of the Grand Alliance are Hapag-Lloyd (Germany), NYK (Japan), OOCL (Hong Kong) and MISC (Malaysia).
The port coverage of the EU1 Service remains unchanged.
The Grand Alliance said higher schedule contingencies have been allocated to compensate for delays in congested ports, which occur as a result of the high volume in global container traffic.
This allows the Grand Alliance to improve schedule reliability without harming the environment.
