Interview with Mr. Nicola Greenaway, Marketing & Operations Director of Transport Security Expo

2011-8-12

JCtrans: Firstly, will you please make a brief introduction of Transport Security Expo?

Mr. Nicola Greenaway: Transport Security Expo is the principal international event bringing focus and clarity to the complex and multifaceted task of ensuring our public transportation and commercial supply chain networks remain well protected from acts of terrorism and incidence of organised criminal activity.

JCtrans: How does Transport Security Expo benefit the industry?

Mr. Nicola Greenaway: This is a highly specialised and unique event which gathers the world's leading experts from the areas of aviation, air cargo, maritime, and supply chain security, along with government officials, the military, security services, law enforcement, industry, and academic circles together to deliberate on the challenges faced and to drive the adoption of operational countermeasures.

Transport Security Expo is the only such event completely immersed in terms of the key issues faced by the transportation industries, and is the only primary and thoroughly embedded forum in which these issues may be discussed in the round, with resolution sought openly in a safe and secure environment

JCtrans: Transport Security Expo features an extensive conference and knowledge centre workshop programme. Which will be the main conferences in this event?

Mr. Nicola Greenaway: Aviation Security - 13th & 14th September

The aviation industry continues to face a multitude of security threats on a daily basis from crime and terrorism and in this climate of serious terrorist threat, high levels of security are an essential defence. Ten years on from 9/11 the security environment may have changed dramatically but the complex issues surrounding aviation security remain a significant challenge for the industry and for governments. In addition the constant flow of emerging threats provides an ever present reminder that continual vigilance and determined efforts to constantly improve aviation security on a national and transnational basis are essential.

Speaking organisations include: BAA Airports, UK Border Agency, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Manchester Airport, Qantas, Copenhagen Airports, Airports Council International (ACI), Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI), European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Association of European Airlines and the Ministry of Transport for the State of Israel.

Maritime Security & Counter Piracy - 13th September

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and NATO Shipping along with other leading stakeholders will discuss and debate key issues and best practice around security, safety and crime prevention. With the current threats around Piracy and Terrorism on the increase no one stakeholder can ensure security. Collaborative discussion will take place to evaluate the current threats and transfer best practices from lessons learned. This conference will provide an opportunity to discuss the benefits of the ISPS code updates and new legislation and how this affects the shipping industry.

Speaking organisations include: International Maritime Organisation (IMO), European Commission, NATO Shipping Centre, BIMCO, International Maritime Bureau, INTERTANKO, Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI), INTERPOL, Maersk Tankers, Suez Canal Container Terminal and HM Revenue & Customs.

Securing & Protecting Public Transport Systems - 14th September

Public transport systems underpin urban mobility and are critical to urban prosperity; but these systems remain vulnerable to attack as they are fully open and accessible. With the level of threat remaining high, embedding security measures into public transport systems is an essential requirement; as is ensuring that the use and convenience of public transportation is not compromised. Incidents such as the 7/7 attacks and those in Madrid serve to reinforce the need for public transport systems to make concerted efforts to protect passengers and infrastructure across large geographies and to be secure against potential terrorist attack.

Speaking organisations include: Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI), British Transport Police, and Transport for London, London Fire Brigade, Logica and Leicester University

JCtrans: Besides this event, what's your plan for this or next year?

Mr. Nicola Greenaway: We also organise another event taking place in April 2012. Counter Terror Expo, London, Olympia.

Counter Terror Expo is the premier global event for professionals tasked with ensuring a formidable and effective response to the threats we face today.

Established with the intent to deliver a unique and secure environment in which professionals within the critically important counter-terrorism arena can come together to share experience and gain knowledge, the event has grown exponentially to be a truly key gathering of the leading experts in the field from within government, military, the security services, law enforcement and academia worldwide.

Counter Terror Expo features a highly relevant centrepiece conference designed to deliver insight, analysis and perspective to current threats, an extensive and highly specialised programme of workshops developed to offer an in-depth examination of specific issues and provide a focused forum for debate, as well as one of the largest showcase exhibitions of its kind anywhere and which attracts the leading vendors globally.

With the threat from international terrorism remaining at a significantly high level and those with the desire, intent and means to do harm proving to be nimble, inventive and extremely dangerous adversaries, this event serves a vital role in delivering a uniquely creative and constructive environment in which the issues of today may be debated and the counter-measures of tomorrow developed.

Counter Terror Expo brings both focus and clarity to the complex and multifaceted task of protecting people and assets from the threat presented by international terrorism.

This operationally critical two day event is held annually in the prestigious Grand Hall of the Olympia Exhibitions & Conference Centre in the very heart of London.
