Lufthansa flies Beaujolais Nouveau around the world

2007-11-14

LUFTHANSA Cargo has been moving more than 1,000 tonnes of Beaujolais Nouveau from Lyon to the US, Japan and Korea.

The aim is to ensure that the world's connoisseurs will be able to open and drink this year's Beaujolais Nouveau on the worldwide mandatory date of November 15 for decanting the wine.

To handle the shipment of more than one million bottles of the young French red wine, Lufthansa Cargo stepped up its staffing level in Lyon with employees from Paris and Frankfurt.

The bumper shipment was then transported by road by a fleet of 63 trucks to airports in Frankfurt, Brussels, Munich und Leipzig for loading onto freighters or into the belly holds of Lufthansa passenger aircraft for the flight to the new wine's destinations.

Lufthansa Cargo transported 1,070 tonnes of the wine, and its Lufthansa Cargo Charter Agency subsidiary flew another 186 tonnes on two flights, a statement from Lufthansa Cargo said.
