Orlando International Airport has gained a major new international carrier with the addition of a six-day-a-week service by Germany-based Lufthansa. Lufthansa is offering daily direct service Sunday through Friday between Orlando and Lufthansa's hub in Frankfurt, Germany. From there, one-stop service is available to nearly 100 countries in the Lufthansa network. Lufthansa is operating the service with A330-300 aircraft, which have a capacity for 295 passengers, as well as a large cargo belly that some carriers use for extra cargo-only flights. With Lufthansa's arrival we now have another opportunity to showcase Orlando and Central Florida to the rest of the world. The success of this new relationship opens the door to business development and tourism to nearly 60 new international locations including one-stop service to markets in Europe, Asia, Africa and China,?said Jeff Fuqua, chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. The new service represents a 17.5 percent increase total international flights at Orlando, and a 19.3 percent gain in international passenger capacity compared to a year ago. |
