The retail sales in Singapore increased by 14.4 percent in June over a year ago, according to the figures released by the Singapore Department of Statistics (SDS) on Wednesday.
All retail sectors reported higher sales compared to a year ago. In particular, sales of watches and jewelry, furniture and household equipment, recreational goods, telecommunications apparatus and computers rose substantially by 21.3 percent to 48.4percent, the largest increase since 2005.
The catering trade rose by 9.6 percent in June over a year ago, while at constant prices, the index was up 7.5 percent.
The total retail sales value was estimated at 3 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.96 billion U.S. dollars) in June.
The total value of catering trade was estimated at 369.1 million Singapore dollars (about 241.2 million U.S. dollars) in June.
