Seaways Shipping launches direct service from Paradip to Singapore
POSTED: 9:17 a.m. EDT, June 30,2007
India's Seaways Shipping has started a new feeder service connecting Paradip in the state of Orissa with Singapore.
The service deploys a 582-TEU vessel, called the Kissama. The ship has been chartered by Seaways Shipping's wholly-owned Maxicon Container Line, based in Singapore.
The new service calls at ports in Singapore, Port Kelang, Calcutta and Paradip. The transit time from Paradip to Singapore is expected to be five days, half the usual time taken to transship cargo, the company said.
Up until now there have been no direct sailings between Paradip and Singapore, reports AXS-Alphaliner News. Consequently, Seaways Shipping has for the last four years been moving cargo bound for Singapore from Paradip via transshipment in Chennai. |
