Pakistan and Iran will formally start talks this week over import of 1,000 mega watt electricity from Iran to meet Pakistan's growing power demand, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan reported Sunday.
During the talks, the two sides will discuss feasibility of the project, rate, transmission line way and time-frame.
Experts from both sides will also discuss how to promote cooperation and exchange of experience and expertise regarding construction of dams and their safety aspect for mutual benefit of both the countries.
Pakistani Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi has arrived in Iran with a high-level delegation to meet with his Iranian counterpart Parviz Fattah, according to APP.
On his arrival in Iran, he told newsmen that due to rapid economic development, demand of electricity in Pakistan has increased sharply, resulting in power shortage, said the report.
He said that in order to meet growing demand of electricity, Pakistan is intending to import it from brotherly country Iran, adding that there exists vast potential to promote mutual cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, energy, electricity and water.
