Pakistan Asks Philippines to Drop Duty on Import of Float Glass
POSTED: 11:13 a.m. EDT, January 18,2007

Pakistan has asked Philippine for withdrawal of the safeguard measures, imposed recently at the import stage on Pakistani made float glass, it was reliably learnt on Monday.

Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has protested over the decision of Philippines government of enforcing the safeguard action on Pakistani float glass import under the World Trade Organisation (WTO) regulations.

The ministry has communicated its reservations to Manila government to review the decision of inflated import duty on the product.

However, the Ministry of Commerce is also reviewing the case and collecting details on the issue to pursue the issue with commerce and trade officials of Philippine, sources added. Islamabad is considering the decision as against the basic philosophy of fair trade and promotion of free trade globally, which is discouraging the exports of float glass to Philippine.
