Senior managers from the four Asian container lines in the CKYH Alliance -- COSCO Container Lines, "K" Line, Yang Ming Marine, and Hanjin Shipping -- gathered in Okinawa, Japan last week to set their collective targets for 2008.
The carriers said a major goal of the 2008 CKYH Summit Meeting is to strengthen cooperation to "enhance service competitiveness and improve customer service on the East and West trades and also to enlarge service coverage."
Other strategies include a rationalization of services in the transpacific and European trades, development of regional feeder network, cooperation of terminals and chassis.
"Furthermore, in recognition of the importance of global environment, CKYH Alliance also agreed to make efforts to protect the environment by reducing bunker consumption through service rationalization, minimizing the emission of CO2 through vessel speed control and by using environmentally friendly equipment for both vessel and terminal operations."
