Because of what Maersk calls "unsustainable trading conditions in the South East Asia/New Zealand market," the world's biggest container line will join MISC in a vessel sharing agreement on the loop starting June 9.
The agreement covers the existing Maersk Line's New Zealand relay loop 1 on the NEZ service that deploys four Maersk 4,100-TEU ships, reports AXS-Alphaliner News. MISC will provide one of the four ships that connect Tanjung Pelepas and Singapore to Brisbane, Auckland and Port Chalmers.
MISC says that the collaboration will provide shorter transit times and enhanced port coverage.
MISC is also partnership with the twice-weekly New Zealand Express (NZX) service run with PIL, MOL, OOCL and NYK, and will continue in its role while being a partner in the new Maersk Line alliance.
