Maersk Line is implementing a new global formula to calculate the floating Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) throughout the course of the year, which will affect a number of its trades.
Starting May 1, the shipping line said in a statement that its new BAF will take effect in the North and Latin America-East Africa trades. The BAF for both dry and refrigerated containers will be: US$600 per TEU, $1,200 per FEU.
For East Africa to North and Latin America, the BAF will be: $200 per TEU and $400 per FEU.
For the Pacific trade, the BAF for the Far East to United States west coast, Canada and Guam will be $125 per TEU, $250 per FEU and 40' high cube and 45' containers.
Containers moving between the Far East and United States east and Gulf coasts and Canada (Atlantic-east coast) will be subject to a BAF of $195 per TEU, and $390 per FEU, 40' high cube and 45' containers.
The BAF for the United States west coast, Canada (Pacific-west coast), and Guam to Far East will be: $55 per TEU, and $110 per FEU, 40' high cube and 45' containers.
For the United States east coast, Gulf, and Canada (Atlantic-east coast) to Far East the BAF will be: $85 per TEU and $170 per FEU, 40' high cube and 45' containers.
The BAF for the Middle East/Indian subcontinent-North America trade will be $215 per TEU and $430 per FEU.
The BAF will be subject to quarterly revisions.
