Negeri Sembilan Customs seized 55,400 cartons of cigarettes from a container at North Port, Port Klang, yesterday.

Unpaid duties on the cigarettes with brand names, "Virginia League" and "American Blend League", amounted to US$1.42 million.

Customs deputy director-general (Preventive) Datuk Mardina Alwi said the container was laden with cigarettes imported from Cambodia by a company operating in Kuantan, Pahang.

A man in his 30's who acted as the shipping agent had been detained for questioning.
