Port of Yantai container throughput up 8pc in first nine months

Port of Yantai, a port in north eastern Shandong province, handled 936,000 TEU during the first nine months of this year, up 8.2 per cent compared to the same period last year, Xinhua reported.

The overall tonnage of the port went up 30.6 per cent to 94.9 million tons.

The Port of Yantai plans to invest CNY2.4 billion (US$323 million) on a total of 19 expansion projects, including a CNY83-million terminal in the West Port Area and a CNY2.4-million berth at the Longkou Port Area.

Port of Yantai's throughput surpassed one million TEU and 100 million-tons for the first time in 2006 and became one of the 12 Chinese sea ports whose throughput exceeded 100 million tons.
