Cigarettes seized at Malaysian port

2007-11-13

The Customs Department seized a container-load of Korean-made cigarettes which had been in Port Klang for almost a year.

Customs deputy director-general Datuk Mardina Alwi said a team of officers checked the container at the Klang Container Terminal and discovered it contained 42,750 cartons of cigarettes.

She said under the law, the importers have six months to declare their goods once docked. Customs has identified the importer and a 35-year-old shipping agent has been detained.
