Cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport rose by 10.5 per cent in August to reach 324,000 tonnes, the largest monthly increase this year.
Passenger throughput grew to 4.42 million, up 8.2 per cent compared to the same month a year ago, due to robust departures and visitor numbers. Air traffic movements grew 7.8 per cent year on year to 25,580.
"Cargo volumes have risen strongly, a trend to long-term growth. The airport remains well positioned to both contribute to and benefit from the mainland's economic development," said Airport Authority CEO Stanley Hui.
For the 12 months ending August 31, the airport's cargo volume reached 3.66 million tons, representing year-on-year growth of 3.9 per cent. Air traffic movements grew 4.5 per cent year on year to 289,935.
