The Safmarine Makutu will replace the Maersk Toba, a similar sized vessel, on Safari 1. The AP Moller Maersk-owned container line's Safari services will continue to use 13 vessels: seven vessels are deployed on Safari 1, and six on Safari 2.

The port rotation for Safari 1 is: Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Durban, Cape Town, Port Louis, Tanjung Pelepas, Hong Kong.

The port rotation for Safari 2 is: Hong Kong, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Louis, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Hong Kong.

A statement from the shipping line said that seven new vessels are set to join Safmarine's fleet in 2008. These include five 2,474-TEU ships to be delivered by Volkswerft Stralsund in Germany, and two 6,160-TEU vessels by Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction in Korea.
