Press Conference of WCA Senior Officers
POSTED: 4:28 p.m. EDT, June 5,2007

WCA senior officers held press conference on June the 3rd, many media partners have contributed insightful questions and obtained far-sighted opinions from these organizers.

Jctrans.net: The e-business is growing rapidly in recent years, and a group of large e-business companies are founded, such as alibaba and jctrans.net. What is your opinion toward the cooperation between e-business and logistics industry, especially freight forwarders?

Mr David Yukeum: Yeah, it is no doubt that internet will continue to change the style of our life and work. In logistics industry, all countries are busy building their own systems. However, if you want to reduce cost and keep high effects, there is a problem of integration, and internet will play a role of bridge in the process to integrate China and World.

21st Century: It is known to all that there is difference between China and developed countries. How great is the difference in your opinion, and is there any way to improve?

Luo Kaifu:

If we can use a word to describe the difference, it is ¡°great¡±. The logistics industry grew rapidly since the World War two, which represented on their management, logistics ideology, information and service standard. If the developed countries can get 100 scores, China can only get 40. I mean, there is a great difference between China and overseas logistics industry.

Firstly, China is lack of talents. Chinese are not international because of the short of professional education system and training system.

Secondly, it is the short of logistics ideology. Most Chinese are limited in traditional transportation style.

Finally, the management is not good enough. Although our logistics industry is growing rapidly, there is still difference between us and developed countries and we have to seize opportunities and face all the challenges.

COSOC: What is the trend of China shipping¡¯s development?

Luo Kaifu:

Before reform and opening up, as a carrier, Cosco was one of the largest among Chinese ocean transportation companies; Sinotrans was the only freight forwarders company in China, without permission to own fleet. After the reform and opening up, there exist two companies developing side by side, then China Shipping come into being. The three mega-companies now have double identities as both carrier and freight forwarder. I am sure that logistics companies who have two or more identities will increase; this is a trend.

International Business Daily:

Through communication with Chinese attendees, I heard such a voice that though there are many overseas freight forwarders companies attend this meeting, they are more inclined to talk with European or American businessman. The present situation presumably can not satisfy their needs.

Mr David Yukeum:

Judging from the statistics, there are nearly 100 to 150 American attendees, and almost the same number of European attendees. This number is growing year by year. (He also jokes that many European and American businessman are on their way.)

Luokaifu:

I want to add something. At the first conference, there are about 500 companies, with Chinese companies taking up to 1/4 of the total amount. At the following conferences, though Chinese companies are increasing, there is still demand. The constant increasing Chinese companies also prove this point.

Jctrans

Would you please tell us something about next conference?

Mr David Yukeum:

The increasing number of attending companies and the influence make us believe that if we can continue this communication and let more overseas logistics and freight forwarding companies know more about the way Chinese people do business and let Chinese logistics companies develop through communication. Anyway, no matter which city holds next event, we believe, the attendees at the next meeting will exceed 1500.
