Dubai wants private firms to clear traffic jams
POSTED: 9:37 a.m. EDT, October 16,2007

Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA) is considering employing private companies to move vehicles that have broken down or had an accident on the city's highways.

The government body, which is charged with getting traffic moving in the emirate, believes that private companies will drastically cut the time it takes to clear vehicles obstructing the road.

A study by the RTA suggests that the time taken to clear these obstructions could be cut from the 40 minutes it takes today to only five minutes if private firms were employed for the task, according to a report in Gulf News.
