Wuhan cargo transportation volume up 19pc in first half
POSTED: 1:30 p.m. EDT, September 22,2007
CARGO transportation volume of Wuhan, capital of the central China province of Hubei rose 19.1 per cent year on year to 110.25 million tons in the first half of this year, Xinhua reported.

The rapid growth of cargo transportation in Wuhan, a city of 8 million on the middle reaches of the Yangtze, is a result of fast growing industries, investment and foreign trade, which led to expansion of transportation demand to raw materials, the report said.

Docks in Wuhan handled 26.17 million tons of cargo in the first half, an increase of 2.9 per cent and the Yangtze river waterways in the central China city handled 15.31 million tons, up 20.5 per cent, the report said.
