Cosco is preparing to take delivery next month of Asia's first 10,000-TEU container ship, built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries' (HHI) yard in Ulsan, South Korea.
Christened the Cosco Asia, it is the first of four similar-sized mega vessels to be constructed at HHI's shipyard.
The last of the four ships from this series is scheduled for delivery by the middle of next year.
"I laud the great efforts made by the builders of Cosco Asia. It is because of their dedication and devotion that Cosco Asia has turned into a dream ship that will serve the fast-growing maritime trades and help protect the marine environment," said Captain Wei Jiafu, Cosco's president and chief executive officer.
All of Cosco's container ships of 6,000 TEU and greater have been built by HHI.
