Component manufacturer Epcos has set up an online service to help firms comply with the requirements of China¨s new law on hazardous substances in electronic products.
China RoHS, officially known as the Administration on the Control of Pollution Caused by Electronic Information Products (ACPEIP), regulates products containing any of six hazardous substances: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls or polybrominated diphenyl ethers.
Beginning March 1, when ACPEIP goes into effect, manufacturers of electronic information products must clearly label their products if they contain the listed substances.
The firm's website contains background information on labeling requirements and a summary of the ACPEIP, as well as links to the Ministry of Information Industry of the People¨s Republic of China (in Chinese), the German Electronic Manufacturers Association (ZVEI) and the American Electronics Association (AEA).
