Swisslog Awarded larger order by UK's Quinn Radiators
POSTED: 3:02 p.m. EDT, January 31,2007

Quinn Radiators, one of the leading producers of radiators in Europe, has commissioned the logistics company Swisslog to design and implement an automated high bay warehouse at the company's new production site in Newport, South Wales. The order amounts to MCHF 25.

The largest manufacturer of domestic and specification radiators in the UK is currently creating in Newport what will be the most modern and efficient production facility worldwide. Swisslog will provide Quinn Radiators with a new high bay warehouse for this facility whose expected output capacity will be 4 million radiators per year. Swisslog was chosen because "we sought a partner to provide a turnkey package of an automated high bay warehouse together with fully integrated, automatic order picking equipment", says Ciar‡n Doherty, Operations Manager at Quinn Radiators. "Swisslog's very professional approach enabled them to present us with a solution that catered for all our storage, picking, warehouse management software, empty pallet handling and dispatch needs."

The new facility encompasses six stacker cranes able to serve 41,000 pallet locations and a conveyor system to transport the pallets. Three gantry robots, each equipped with magnetic heads, will be used for the picking of single radiators to order. Swisslog will implement its software products WarehouseManager?and AutomationManager?to run and monitor the solution. "Quinn Radiators operate in a very competitive market and this important project will further our aim to provide the best supply chain solution to all of our customers", Doherty notes. The handover of the complete system is scheduled for December 2007.
