China-Iceland joint venture cold warehouse starts operation
POSTED: 9:13 a.m. EDT, October 15,2007

THE cold storage facility jointly set up by Iceland-based shipping line Eimskip and Qingdao Port Group has commenced operation, Xinhua reported.

The facility, which consists of two warehouses inside the Qianwan harbour area of northeast China's major seaport of Qingdao, is the largest cold storage facility in the country. Each of the two warehouses has a capacity of 60,000 tons and a floor area of 55,000 square metres. Both comply with European standards.

The Port of Qingdao is the largest transshipment centre for reefer containers in China. It has the country's largest reefer container storage facility in the country with 5,976 slots. The report said the new facility would help Qingdao become Asia's largest reefer transshipment hub.
