Dubai's drivers will face traffic diversions this weekend as the next phase of the city's tram railway gets underway.
Diversions are being put in place on Al Sufouh Road from tomorrow until July 15 to allow work to be carried out on the Dubai Tram project, said the emirate's Road and Transport Authority (RTA).
The first measures will be in place until Sunday 8 June, with the second ongoing until Tuesday, 15 July.
Intersections affected by the construction include areas parallel to Dubai College, near Dubai Media City, and by Dubai Marina's Tamani Hotel and District 10 buildings.
The RTA warned residents and drivers in the area to expect increased congestion and longer journey times.
"Works will be carried out intensely, around the clock, until the completion of all works related to the tram project," said Maitha bin Udai, chief executive of RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency.
Dubai Tram is set to open in November.
When complete, it will link the Dubai Metro and the Palm Monorail, run along Al Sufouh Road and Jumeirah Beach Road from Mall of the Emirates at one end to Dubai Marina.
