Brussels-The International Road Transport Union (IRU) is launching its call for candidate submissions for its new award "Best EU Road Transport Operator" 2014 to promote excellence and innovation in European road freight transport.
The award aims to draw public and political attention to the crucial role of road freight transport in the economy and enhance the positive image of EU hauliers. It also seeks to promote the implementation of innovative technologies, improved safety, best management practices and corporate social responsibility of transport companies operating in the EU.
President of the IRU EU Goods Transport Liaison Committee, Florence Berthelot, said, "Hauliers are the lifeblood of the European economy and are instrumental in driving innovation in key areas, such as services and partnerships with other transport modes and industries. This new award seeks to shed light on the best of our industry among our sector, policy and decision-makers at the highest levels, in recognition of their professionalism and contributions to the European economy."
The award is divided into three categories according to the company's fleet size:
Category I 1-10 vehicles;
Category II 11-50 vehicles;
Category III over 50 vehicles.
The deadline for applications is 6 June 2014 and candidates may only be submitted via their respective national IRU Member Association.
Winners will be announced at a special event in Brussels by the end of 2014.
