Dubai returns to double-digit cargo growth

2009-11-18

Dubai International Airport has continued to buck international trends, registering double-digit year-on-year increases for both freight and passenger traffic during October.

After nine months of modest cargo growth, the airport registered a double-digit increase in freight traffic for the first time in 13 months, as volumes surged 17.7% during October to more than 185,000 tonnes.

The airport said the growth was due largely to traffic generated by meetings, promotions, conventions and exhibitions that took place in Dubai last month.

Year-to-date cargo volumes reached 1.55m tonnes, compared to 1.52m tonnes during the same period in 2008, up 2.2%.
